Preparatory Committee meeting for the Habitat III Conference
A delegation of local and regional leaders of the Global Taskforce, facilitated by UCLG, which included over 40 elected representatives, met in New York on 15-18 September, on the occasion of the first Preparatory Committee meeting for the Habitat III Conference.

1st  Forum of Municipal Cooperation from the EU in Palma Mallorca.
On 25th and 26th September, UCLG participated in the 1st Forum on Municipal Cooperation from the European Union, which took place in Palma, Mallorca. The Forum was organized by the Majorcan Fund for Solidarity and Cooperation, in association with the Menorcan Fund for Cooperation and the Eivissa and Formenteran Fund for Cooperation.
Democracy Day
On 15 September, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and its members will celebrate the International Day of Democracy. This year's theme – Engaging Young People on Democracy – highlights the challenges and opportunities of young people engaging in democratic processes.
6th World Regional Governments Summit
The 6th World Regional Governments Summit, which took place in Cartagena de las Indias, Colombia, within the framework of the General Assembly of the Organization of Regions United-Forum of Regional Governments and Global Associations of Regions (ORU-FOGAR).

7th International Conference of Eurasia World Heritage Cities
The 7th International Conference of Eurasia World Heritage Cities on "Protection and use of historical and cultural heritage in the Eurasian space" was held in the city of Aktau.
Taipei Congress
The 5th UCLG-ASPAC Congress took place on 3-6 September 2014 in Taipei and marked the transition between the incoming and outgoing Presidents. The Congress was opened by Mayor Lung-Bin Hau of Taipei and outgoing UCLG ASPAC President Syed Muhammad Asghar Shah Gillani from the Local Councils Association of the Punjab (LCAP) of Pakistan.
The Observatory on Local Autonomy (OLA), together with the CEMR, welcome you to a conference on the impact of the economic crisis on the administrative organisation in Europe, and in particular on the rationalisation process of means and resources affecting local and regional levels.
Guangzhou Awards
The Organizing Committee of the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (Guangzhou Award) released the names of the 15 shortlisted initiatives for the 2nd edition of the Award at a press conference on 28 September.

The Taipei City Government won the Citizen's Choice Award for its “Clean Air — It's Your Move” initiative at the C40 and Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards ceremony in New York on Sept. 22
The IOPD Distinction Best Practice in Citizen Participation seeks to recognize innovative experiences in the field of participatory democracy, coordinated by local governments, which may be susceptible to reply. Local government’s members of the IOPD can be submitted to this distinction, which is awarded annually as part of the Conference of the IOPD.
COMMITTEES, WORKING GROUPS, COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE & FORA
The UCLG Working Groups on Local Economic Development and Intermediary Cities and the municipality of Chefchaouen held a learning exchange in Morocco between 24 - 27 September, which focused on the issues of local economic development and decent work in intermediary cities.
Belo Horizonte
The Inclusive Cities Observatory is a space for analysis and reflection on local social inclusion policies managed by the Committee on Social Inclusion of UCLG. Among these case studies, the Committee presents a study based on the rehabilitation.
With the aim of boosting the exchange of knowledge and collaboration between cities, and most of all, to focus the work developed by the UCLG Committee on Digital and Knowledge-based Cities, it is scheduled the organization thematic and operative working meetings.
The UCLG Decentralisation and Local Self-Government Committee, in collaboration with Goberna, Escuela de Política y Alto Gobierno del Instituto Universitario de Investigación Ortega y Gasset are offering the fifth online Course on Decentralisation and Local Governance, which will be held from 25 September to 21 December 2014.

For the first time ever, the United Nations has declared 31 October ''World Cities Day'', recognising and highlighting the critical role that cities and smart urban planning have to play in sustainable development. To coincide with World Cities Day, UN Habitat and the Guardian also put out a call for the best existing urban ideas.
