2015 UCLG Culture Summit

The UCLG members and Partners are invited to submit candidacies to host the “UCLG Culture Summit ”, to be celebrated between January and April 2015. Since the founding Congress of Paris, culture has been at the heart of UCLG with the adoption of the Agenda 21 for culture (May 2004), the Policy Statement “Culture: Fourth Pillar of Sustainable Development” (+)

UCLG is convinced that communities in which all citizens are empowered to participate in social, economic and political opportunities are instrumental in the eradication of poverty. Achievements of the MDGs, in particular those related to women’s advancement are often linked with the quality of basic service provision that local governments are able to offer. (+)
Technical cooperation between cities and their associations
Announcements
UCLG, in partnership with academia, NGOs, development agencies and donors, are encouraging technical cooperation between cities and their associations in order to gain insights into ways to further support the professionalization of decentralized cooperation. (+)
Local and regional governments at the UN Development Cooperation Forum
Announcements
This year the fourth UN DCF will take place in July in New York and advance global dialogue on the future of development cooperation in the post-2015 era. Every two years, the UN Development Cooperation Forum (UN DCF) is being held by the United Nations Economic and Social Council. (+)
The local and regional agenda during the 7th World Urban Forum
Announcements
The United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat) will celebrate the 7th session of the World Urban Forum in the Colombian city of Medellín on 5-11 April under the overall theme “Urban Equity in Development – Cities for Life”. This global event will include a number of important sessions for the local and regional agenda. (+)
Gender equality
Announcements
As part of the OWG 8 session in New-York this week, Member States, Major Groups and stakeholders will discuss the issue of equality, in particular gender equality and women empowerment. UCLG, building on its longstanding work on the topic and convinced that a successful Post 2015 agenda needs acknowledging these issues. (+)
