UCLG ASPAC Congress is a biennial event that brings together key development actors across Asian Pacific countries. As a region with stronger economic growth (Regional Economic Outlook: Asia Pacific, October 2017), Asia Pacific has become a region with rapid digital transformation. IDC Study predicts that digital transformation will add an estimated US$1.16 trillion (60%) to Asia Pacific’s GDP and increase the growth rate by 0.8% annually (Microsoft and IDC Asia/Pacific,2018). With this potential, local governments in the Asia Pacific region must push their innovation to be prepared to maximize the social and economic impacts that will arise from technological advances.
Digital transformation provides space for innovative solutions towards inclusive development. Through a creative innovation, the capacity of local governments will be enhanced to provide public services that reach all citizens and at the same time ensure sustainability in development process. Recognizing this, the 7th UCLG ASPAC Congress carries the theme “Innovation-Driven Development for Sustainable Cities”. The Congress aims to strengthen national and local leaders’ commitments and capacities in creating better connectivity to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and New Urban Agenda. Comprising various events such as plenary sessions, training events, network events, standing committee meetings, exhibitions and study visits, the Congress offers a variety of learning and sharing platforms among stakeholders that will benefit the participants to develop impactful programs in their respective regions.
