Stockholm+50

02-03 June 2022. Stockholm (Sweden)

In June 2022, the United Nations will celebrate the 50 years since the 1972 Stockholm United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, which marked a watershed moment, recognizing the centrality of the environment for human well-being, sparked a host of new global agreements to protect the environment, and led to the creation of an anchoring institution in the United Nations – the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

The Government of Sweden, with support from the Government of Kenya, will host Stockholm+50, an international meeting to commemorate the 50 years since the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and its outcome documents. By recognizing the importance of multilateralism in tackling the Earth’s triple planetary crisis – climate, nature, and pollution – the event will to act as a springboard accelerate the implementation of the UN Decade of Action to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals, including the 2030 Agenda, Paris Agreement on climate change, the post-2020 global Biodiversity Framework, and encourage the adoption of green post-COVID-19 recovery plans.

The international meeting, “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity” will consist in three leadership dialogues, and will have the ambition to accelerate the implementation of the environmental dimension of Sustainable Development in the context of the Decade of Action.
