11 cities from Africa and Latin America benefit from the Fund for Local Cultural Governance

During the year 2010, UCLG created a Fund for Local Cultural Governance.

Promoted by the Committee on Culture, the World Secretariat of UCLG and the City of Barcelona and with the support of the Spanish Development Cooperation Agency (AECID), a call for proposals was set at 675 000 euro and opened projects for cities and local governements, direct or indirect members of UCLG, from countries in Africa, Ibero-America and the Mediterranean.

Based on the Agenda 21 for Culture, UCLG’s reference document for local cultural policies, the call enjoyed a wide impact, with 78 expressions of interest, 26 projects submitted and 11 winning projects.

Therefore, 11 projects will be financed in the framework of the Fund for Local Cultural Governance and following the call for proposals, in the following cities: Accra (Ghana), Ate (Peru), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Flores (Uruguay), Loja (Ecuador), Maputo (Mozambique), Mexico City (Mexico), Montevideo (Uruguay), Porto Alegre (Brazil), Quilmes (Argentina) and Rosario (Argentina).

The modalities of the Call for 2011 will be available as soon as possible.
