350 local and regional leaders at the 6th World Water Forum

On the occasion of the 6th World Water Forum that is held in Marseille from 12 to 17 March 2012, 350 local and regional leaders from 5 continents are expected to increase international mobilisation of local and regional authorities in the water and sanitation challenges and to reinforce their committment through the Istanbul Water Consensus.

Local and regional leaders are invited to present their involvement in this year’s topic "Time for Solutions", and to bring forward their solutions to the key topics of water management in the world and to reaffirm their essential role in the universal access to water and sanitation.

In the framework of the political process of the Forum, UCLG co-organises together with the World Water Council the 3rd International Conference of Local and Regional Authorities on 14 and 15 March.  With over 12 thematic sessions, this International Conference is aimed at presenting the progress of the Istanbul Water Consensus adopted during the 5th World Water Forum in 2009, exchange on the questions of water and urbanisation, cooperation, solidarity and regional governance, as well as creating new partnerships between cities and regions.
