3rd Forum of Local and Regional Authorities of the Mediterranean

The UCLG Mediterranean Committee, the city of Marseille, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region along with all member networks of the Mediterranean Committee are organizing, with the help of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 3rd Forum of Local and Regional Authorities of the Mediterranean on 3 and 4 April 2013 in Marseille.  

Following the drastic events that have taken place in the regions, this Assembly of Mediterranean elected representatives will once again be the occasion to exchange on the various challenges – politic, economic and social – in the regions, and to carry forward a useful contributions to the development perspectives and peace in the Mediterranean. 

During the workshops and the plenary session, the elected representatives will draft proposals to reinforce local democracy and support the decentralization process. They will discuss the means to implements decentralized policies of sustainable development that take into account the specific nature of these territories giving priority to the youth. 

The Forum will also be an opportunity to examine the contribution of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership but also, more generally, that of international donors in the development of the region. 

Lastly, the Forum of the Anna Lindh Foundation, which will be held from 4 to 7 April 2013 in Marseille, will be the occasion to invite civil society from the Mediterranean who hope to take an active role in the changes currently underway and contribute to the Forum of Local and Regional Authorities of the Mediterranean.
