Some 200,000 civilians, including many children, are cut off from food and medicine in the UCLG member city of Aleppo. The city has faced a siege for over 100 days.

We, local and regional governments from around the world, gathered in United Cities and Local Governments, would like to express our deep concern to the international community and call on the United Nations, national governments and all relevant international institutions to support a ceasefire.

We further call for the following measures to protect civilians:

  • Ensure facilities to take care of the wounded
  • Offer civilians the possibility to leave the city
  • Allow food and goods to cover basic needs into the city
