The 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place from 10 to 21 March 2014 in New York. A delegation of the UCLG Standing Committee on Gender Equality will participate in the meetings and put forward the voices and messages of local and regional governments.
The CSW is the principal UN global policy-making body dedicated to gender equality and women’s rights. The annual gathering of States is focusing this year on “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”. The outcomes of the meetings will feed in the process of the Post-2015 development agenda negotiations.
The draft conclusions have already been circulated, and it is very preoccupying to see that neither local governance neither local political representation are taken into account. You will find attached the draft conclusions and a content briefing highlighting the main messages UCLG will put forward.
A slot has been obtained at the second interactive panel dedicated to “Accountability and participation of women and girls in the implementation of the MDGs” to take place on Wednesday 12 afternoon.
These meetings will also be the opportunity to launching the Global Partnership gathering UCLG, the Huairou Commission, UN Women and UN Habitat for gender responsive local governance and aiming at “Bringing together grassroots women’s organizations, elected women and local governments to achieve transformative changes for women and girls”. It will be held at the Ford Foundation on Tuesday 11.
