The African Section of UCLG held its Executive Committee meeting on 26 April in Dakar, Senegal. Gathering 12 representatives of cities and associations of local governments from all African regions, the Executive Committee discussed the workplan of UCLGA highlighting nine major issues.
It has been first the opportunity to make the Network of Local Elected Women in Africa become the Committee on Women and Gender Equality of the UCLGA. The gathering was also the occasion to provide full support to the International Workshop on Financing Urban Investments in Africa that will take place in Rabat on 20th and 21st June on the eve of the activities of the UCLG Executive Bureau. A partnership between UCLGA and Slum Dwellers International (SDI) within the framework of Cities Alliance was also approved by the Committee. Finally, the Committee mandated the Secretary General of UCLGA to start the preparations of the 6th Africities Summit that will take place in Dakar from 4 to 8th December 2012.
