Today, Smart Cities’ policies and programs are making the digital divide for people with disabilities worse not better. There are existing tools and strategies to help cities be both smarter and more inclusive. The Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs (G3ict) is leading an initiative to help local governments worldwide deploy technology and use data to support greater inclusion for persons with disabilities in cities.
United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) is a global network of cities and local, regional, and metropolitan governments and associations committed to amplifying the voices of local and regional governments towards effective localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda (NUA).

Representatives of G3ict and UCLG will discuss the NUA and other related global commitments for inclusive cities. They will define what is an inclusive Smart City and how cities in both the global north and south are using technology and data to combat inequalities and accelerate the localization of the 2030 Agenda and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The presentation will include defining key performance indicators and metrics to support advancing ICT accessibility and digital inclusion in urban environments and across a broad range of functions that are important to all cities, like strategic planning, procurement, budgeting, technology deployment, developing partnerships, and using standards, etc. The webinar will introduce to participants UCLG´s policy priorities for Accessibility and G3ict’s set of Smart City tools that can be used to support greater inclusion and implement digital accessibility in urban environments.
