As UN Secretary-General António Guterres said recently, the post-COVID19 world will be more digital than before. He views human rights as key to shaping the pandemic response, in terms of the public health emergency and the broader impact on people’s lives and livelihoods. Human rights put people at the center of this crisis. Therefore, while acknowledging the important, instrumental role that digital technologies can play in containing and resolving the current crisis, their application should significantly consider digital rights. The Global Forum for Migration and Development (GFMD), as the only international and state-led, multi-actor forum that has been discussing migration and development for more than a decade, seeks to bolster new solutions to shared challenges brought by COVID-19. To do so, a series of multi-actor webinars has been put in place, looking to connect COVID-19 discussions to the regional consultations and GFMD Summit. (+)
