One year after the signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the United Cites and Local Governments (UCLG), the partnership between the two international organizations remain strong. In a virtual meeting hosted on the 3rd of September 2021, 15 mayors and governors, and representatives from a total of 25 cities representing the world’s largest economies gathered as the Urban 20 (U20) Mayors Summit, convened by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and C40 Cities (C40), presented their vision for a green, just and local recovery from COVID-19 and urged their national leaders to work together to foster greater collaboration with cities and local governments to accelerate solutions to the climate, health, economic and social crisis. The World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), gathering over 240.000 member worldwide expresses its deep concern about the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and the impact on the human rights and livelihoods of its people, in particular women and girls that might be again deprived from the most basic rights including, movement, work and education.  (+)
