On 19-20 December 2014, UCLG-MEWA held its Executive Bureau and Council joint meeting and Summit on Smart Cities and Innovation.
With the support of Adana Metropolitan Municipality, which hosted the meeting and the Union of Municipalities of Turkey which provided logistical support, UCLG-MEWA took important decisions such as approving the program of activities, adopting bylaws and establishing new committees in the MEWA region. To develop UCLG-MEWA activities Executive bureau members agreed to establish the following 6 committees: Local Governance, Social Inclusion, Environment, Smart Cities, Gender Equality and City Diplomacy.
On the second day the World Academy for Local Democracy and Decentralization (WALD) organized a Summit on Smart Cities and Innovation with the support of UCLG-MEWA, Adana Metropolitan Municipality and Union of Municipalities of Turkey. Local authorities from the MEWA region and private companies found an opportunity to present the latest developments in the respective areas. There was a great interest on the Summit, in which more than 500 people participated. The event ended with the family photo of the UCLG-MEWA.
