Human Rights - 26/04/2021
In a consultation on the Myanmar crisis held by the Mayor of Gwangju Lee Yong-sup, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachellet, and the Mayor of Barcelona and UCLG Special Envoy to the UN, Ada Colau, addressed the importance of local and regional governments to protect human rights and democracy in the city and for a renewal of the multilateral system that could enable this protection.

LocalizingSDGs - 23/04/2021
Two workshops brought together the eight local government associations presenting a Voluntary Subnational Review (VSR) in 2021, March 12 and April 22. In addition to reporting on the progress of a country's local governments in the implementation of the SDGs, VSRs are a transformative tool towards more effective multilevel governance mechanisms and to strengthen the involvement of local governments in the localization movement.

In the context of the #CitiesAreListening experiences convened by United Cities and Local Governments together with Metropolis and UN-Habitat, and in cooperation with the #culture2030goal campaign, Roma Capitale and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, local leaders from across the world and key global civil society cultural networks met to discuss the role of culture in sustainable development of cities and communities.

As part of our ongoing effort to reshape narratives on migration, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) renewed its support to the official take off of the the campaign It Takes a Community, soft-launched on the occasion of International Migrants Day, on December 18 2020. An initiative of the GFMD ad hoc Working Group on Public Narratives on Migration, co-chaired by the Government of Canada, the Government of Ecuador and the GFMD Mayors Mechanism, co-steered by UCLG, this global, multi-stakeholder, digital communications campaign brings together national governments, cities, businesses, civil society and international organizations to promote balanced narratives on all forms of human mobility by sharing inclusive stories about social cohesion and the positive impact that migration and diversity can have on communities.
