Last Sunday, 15 July, UCLG and its Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights co-organized a special session on the Right to Housing as a preview of the Local and Regional Governments’ Forum held in parallel to the High Level Political Forum (New York, 15-18 July), in partnership with the UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Kazan was Mentioned Specially by the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize

Kazan is the first Russian city, which has received a special mention of the jury of the World City Prize of Lee Kuan Yew, a prestigious world award in the field of urban development. The award ceremony took place in Singapore at the 6th World Cities Summit. (+)

The Moroccan city of Chefchaouen hosted the First World Forum of Intermediary Cities from 5 to 7 July 2018. Under the slogan "Imagining an urban future together through Intermediary Cities", the forum helped to identify a series of concepts and strategies that are key to achieving sustainable development. Their pivotal role in the achievement of more balanced and sustainable urban development processes, and the reduction of territorial inequalities, makes it imperative that Intermediary Cities become more prominent within the localization processes of all Global Agendas. Housing - 02/07/2018
United Cities and Local Governments considers the Right to Housing as a fundamental pillar of human rights and the Right to the City. Indeed, this was a cornerstone of the advocacy strategy led throughout the debates around the New Urban Agenda (Habitat III). Accordingly, UCLG’s Bogotá Commitment and Action Agenda (October 2016) launched a call to “support inclusive housing policies and ensure the full and progressive realization of the right to adequate housing for all”. Localizing SDGs - 29/06/2018
240 local and regional governments representatives, including 70 Mayors and Regional Presidents, will carry out joint mobilization at the 2018 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) to convey local perspectives on the localization of the 2030 Agenda. From July 15th to 18th will be taking place the first edition of the Local and Regional Governments’ Forum (16th); the Local 2030 event (17th), and the presentation of the 2nd Global Report on the Localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (18th). This complete programme will showcase how local and regional governments are already implementing the global agendas through their public services. (+)
