Our constituency lived a historical turning point last 15 and 16 July, when a group of major global cities brought to the UN a firm pledge for the Right to Housing in the form of the Declaration “Cities for Adequate Housing”. This global call to action builds on the #MakeTheShift campaign, launched by the UN Rapporteur on Adequate Housing.  (+)

In the framework of the Mediterranean City-to-City Migration Project, the Sub-regional event “Communications on Migration: An Issue of Local governance” took place from 18-19 September in the Municipality of Tunis. The event brought together communications specialists, cities and city associations with the aim to rebalance the perceptions of migration. (+)
Cities and Regions on the frontline of Disaster Risk Reduction
“Nature is not a risk, it is an opportunity and can help to make our cities more liveable and resilient!”, stated Tri Rismaharini, the Mayor of Surabaya and recently elected President of UCLG ASPAC, when she opened the peer learning event on disaster risk reduction and the localization of the Sendai Framework.  (+)
Guangzhou Award - 19/09/2018
A total of 313 initiatives have been submitted from 213 cities in 70 countries and regions. After reviewing the applications, members of the technical committee of the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation, which met in Surabaya, Indonesia, in parallel to the 7th Congress of United Cities and Local Governments - Asia Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC Congress), announced the 15 short-listed cities. As you know, on 25 September we will commemorate the adoption of the 17 goals in a global day of action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore, this is is a special year as the Global Day to #Act4SDGs coincides with the opening day of the High-Level Debate of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly. (+)
Fatimetou Abdel Malick: the first female president of a regional council in Mauritania’s history

The regional elections that took place in Nouakchott in Mauritania on 16 September saw the victory of Ms Fatimetou Abdel Malick, former Mayor of Tevragh Zeïna, as the new head of the Regional Council of Nouakchott. This is the first time a woman has been elected president of a regional council in Mauritania’s history. The Regional Council of Nouakchott represents the most populated region of Mauritania, with 1.1 million inhabitants, accounting for a third of the total population of the country.ys. (+)
