THE URBAN SUMMIT

 

UCLG is organizing jointly with UN-Habitat and the City of Rio de Janeiro, with the support of Cities Alliance, the Urban Summit on 18 June at Forte de Copacabana.

 

After the successful meeting with the UN Secretary General in New York last April, the Urban Summit will present the local and regional governments’ recommendations on sustainable development prior to the Rio+20 Heads of State Summit on 20-22 June. Please click here to access the Urban Summit Program.

 

Local and Regional Leaders from across the world will meet with High-level Representatives from United Nations and the international community and stress how urban development is key to sustainable development.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT DIALOGUES

 

At invitation of Brazilian Government, UCLG will participate in the Sustainable Development Dialogues Panel on "Sustainable cities and innovation". Conclusions and recommendations emanating from the Dialogues will be conveyed directly to the Heads of State gathering in Rio.

 

CULTURE AND SUSTAINABILITY IN RIO+20

 

The UCLG Committee on Culture and the Ministry of Culture of Brazil organize a 1-day Seminar to advocate for the recognition of culture as key dimension of sustainability. Actors from local governments, national governments, international organizations and civil society will also address the Rio+20 Outcome Document and its component on culture. Please click here to access the Program.

 

SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND TERRITORIAL COHESION

 

UCLG is organizing jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France a Side Event to debate on local and regional governments’ contribution to sustainable development. The panelists will address the role of urban governance and sub-national governments in the forthcoming global agenda. Please click here to access the Program.
