UCLG would like to recall its Durban Motion in solidarity with the Mayor of Bamako who is still under detention after having been declared innocent in a first trial.
In view of the proving times the world is undergoing and mindful of the health challenges that detention facilities all over the world are facing, UCLG joins the call of the UCLG Africa Pan African Council in calling for the liberation of the Mr Adama Sangaré, at least until his next trial.
UCLG calls for the protection of the rights of local and regional elected officials and leaders of local and regional governments in the performance of their duties, and to ensure that contexts of fragility such us the current pandemic do not undermine local democracy.
